How to Remove Mineral Scale from Sewer Pipes
Method 1: High-Pressure Hydro Jetting with Chain Flail Nozzle
The chain flail descaler — a rotating nozzle with hardened steel chain attachments — mechanically fractures and knocks scale loose while high-pressure water flushes it downstream. Operating at 3,500–4,000 PSI, this method is the most effective for:

Acid descaling is used selectively when mechanical methods alone cannot fully clear extreme scale accumulation.
Why Store-Bought Drain Chemicals Don't Work on Scale
Retail acid drain cleaners (sulfuric acid products) are formulated for organic material — hair and grease — not inorganic mineral scale. The concentration is too low to dissolve calcium carbonate, and the contact time is insufficient even if the acid reached the deposit. They are ineffective for scale and damaging to PVC pipe.
Prevention: Slowing Scale Accumulation
